Beijing Friendship Hospital pioneered an endoscopic 3D imaging system to help endoscopic diagnosis and treatment quickly and steadily

"This is the world's first domestically produced endoscopic 3D imaging system with independent intellectual property rights,which has been independently developed since the approval of the National Key Laboratory of Digestive Health. Currently, this system integrates high-speed computing computer technology and image processing technology to achieve single lens 3D imaging. By increasing motion parallax,it constructs three-dimensional perception,thereby improving the operator's perception of relative positional relationships. Moreover, this system can be compatible with all endoscopic models on the market and has broad market application prospects," said Professor Shutian Zhang,Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Dean of Beijing Friendship Hospital.

On April 9th,a reporter from the People's Daily Health App followed the theme interview activity of "2024 Zhongguancun Forum-Focusing on the Construction of Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center" and walked into the Digestive Endoscopy Center of Beijing Friendship Hospital.During a gastroscopy examination, Professor Xiujing Sun,the chief physician of the Digestive Center at Beijing Friendship Hospital,was seen wearing 3D glasses to quickly and accurately remove the patient's colorectal adenoma. This series of operations also benefited from the endoscopic 3D imaging system that supported this surgery.

Professor Shengtao Zhu,Deputy Director of the Digestive Laboratory at Beijing Friendship Hospital, stated that 3D imaging has a strong three-dimensional sense and is easier to detect lesions.If there are some flat small lesions or small bumps in the gastric mucosa and intestinal folds,They can be presented very clearly in a three-dimensional state, which can help doctors more accurately judge the condition of the lesions, thereby improving the detection rate of colorectal polyps,adenomas,and early cancer by assisting primary and intermediate doctors; In addition,3D imaging also makes endoscopic treatment safer. In the treatment of ESD, POEM,etc.,stereoscopic imaging can more accurately stratify the mucosa, making separation and incision safer and more in place, and the spatial positioning of instruments more accurate, thereby reducing the probability of intraoperative bleeding, reducing the occurrence of perforation, improving surgical efficiency, and shortening treatment time.

Shengtao Zhu introduced that the endoscopic 3D imaging system is compatible with all domestic and foreign brands of digestive endoscopy systems and models. On the basis of not changing the existing digestive endoscopy system, this system only needs to be added to achieve real-time 3D endoscopic imaging. Moreover, after being verified by the CFDA testing center, the installation of this system can improve the image quality of the original endoscopic image by 50% and support hospital 3D surgical broadcasting and medical teaching.

It is reported that since its successful approval in March 2023, the National Key Laboratory of Digestive Health at Beijing Friendship Hospital has explored various early cancer markers and potential targets in the digestive system, focusing on major digestive system diseases, refractory digestive system diseases, and common chronic digestive system diseases; Revealed key mechanisms of diseases such as liver fibrosis; Carry out a series of clinical trials of new drugs for refractory precancerous diseases of the digestive system, promote the development and clinical transformation of innovative drugs; Developed an artificial intelligence assisted diagnostic system for endoscopic gastrointestinal diseases; Representative achievements such as the development of the first 4k ultra high definition endoscope in China.
